Peter Howard, founder of the practice, has both science and legal qualifications and extensive local and overseas biotechnology industry experience in various roles, ranging from business development, IP strategy and management, running technology companies to technology commercialisation and capital raising. Peter has negotiated a large range of licences and other agreements with many of the world’s largest pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies, academic institutions and biotechnology companies. As a result, we are able to combine our legal expertise with an intimate knowledge of the industry to successfully take technologies from concept to product to market. In addition, Peter’s industry and business experience also provides a wealth of high-level corporate connections that opens doors for our clients to new people, new information and new opportunities, which has been instrumental in schemes assisting many local and international biotechnology companies.
Our multidisclipinary service offering is complemented by capital markets and merger & acquisitions expertise. Andrew Gaffney, with more than 20 years Australian and international experience, leads a team of capital markets specialists, undertaking IPOs, capital raisings, takeovers/schemes and private equity deals (including mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures). Andrew has a Masters of Laws, is qualified as an accountant and capitalises on his international experience having worked with a large London law firm before
joining Middletons.
